Santa Maria de Belém, Lisbon, Portugal - 60 Photos
Santa Maria de Belém is an ancient neighborhood of Lisbon, closely linked to the Age of Discovery, it's a must-see for its beauties, such as the Belém Tower and the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, which I visited and photographed.
The Belém Tower is a fortified tower on the banks of the Tagus River. Designed by John II and completed in the 15th century during the reign of Manuel I, it was part of the defense system along with the Cascais Fortress and the Fortress of São Sebastião de Caparica. It consists of a bastion and a four-story, 30-meter-high Manueline-style tower, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983.
Now we come to the Jerónimos Monastery complex, a masterpiece of Portuguese architecture, built at the behest of King Manuel I. The beauty of the complex is due to its first master, Diogo de Boytac, and other illustrious architects from various regions of Europe, such as João de Castilho, and the French sculptor Nicolau Chanterene.
The monastic complex preserves, in addition to the Manueline church, many of the conventual annexes that have contributed to its international fame, including the 16th-century cloister, the former monks' refectory, and the ancient library.
The Mosteiro dos Jerónimos has also been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983. In conclusion, a visit to these two beauties is a must, a feast for the eyes and the spirit.

Santa Maria de Belém è un antico quartiere di Lisbona, molto legato all'età delle scoperte, tappa d'obbligo per le sue bellezze come la Torre di Belém, il Mosteiro dos Jerónimos da me visitati e fotografati.
La Torre di Belém è una Torre fortificata sulla riva del fiume Tago, è stata progettata da Giovanni II e ultimata nel XV Secolo sotto il Regno di Manuele I, faceva parte del sistema di difesa insieme alla fortezza di Cascais e la fortezza di São Sebastião di Caparica, e composta da un bastione e da una torre di 4 piani alta 30 metri in stile Manuelino, nella lista dei beni UNESCO dal 1983.
Veniamo ora al complesso del Monastero di Jerónimos, capolavoro dell'architettura Portoghese, costruito per volere del Re Manuele I, la bellezza del complesso è dovuta al suo primo maestro Diogo de Boytac e da altri illustri architetti provenienti da diverse regioni d'Europa come João de Castilho, dello scultore francese Nicolau Chanterene.
Il Complesso monastico conserva oltre la chiesa manuelina, granparte delle dipendenze conventuali che hanno contribuito alla sua fama internazionale, tra cui il chiostre del XVI Secolo, l'antico refettorio dei monaci e l'antica libreria.
Anche il Mosteiro dos Jerónimos è bene dell'UNESCO fin dal 1983, concludendo, è d'obbligo una visita a queste due bellezze, un godere per gli occhi e lo spirito.
